Donate Securities
Transferring stock is an excellent way to support Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence. A gift of securities may provide significant benefits, such as:
- Increased value for your gift and decreased cost to you
- A charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value of the gifted securities
- Elimination of capital gains tax that would ordinarily become due if you had sold the appreciated securities on the open market and donated the proceeds of the sale to the club
For instructions for giving securities, read our Stock Transfer Instructions.
Matching Gifts
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contribution made by their employees. Contact your Human Resource Department and ask. The impact of your gift to the club can be doubled – or even tripled!

Direct IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD’s)
People who are age 70.5 or older can contribute up to $100,000 from their IRA directly to a charity and avoid paying income taxes on the distribution. It is limited to IRA’s and there are other exclusions and considerations as well. For those who are at least 72, QCD’s count toward the IRA owner’s required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. Consult with your tax advisor.
Planned Giving
Donors of planned gifts qualify for membership in our Heritage Club program. The most common planned gift is a testamentary gift through a will or estate. Planned gift options include:
- Gifts in a will or living trust (remainder or lead trusts)
- Gifts of a new or existing insurance policy
- Beneficiary designations on a life insurance policy
- Gifts of financial accounts
- Gifts of retirement benefits, e.g. IRA direct rollover. Neither you nor your heirs nor your estate will pay income taxes on the distribution of the assets.
Additional details regarding our Heritage Club program are available here. For more information or to arrange a confidential gift planning consultation – without obligation – please contact Paul Grand Pre, Chief Development Officer, at pgrandpre@lawrencebgc.com or 978-683-2742, x118.
